MENA internships in Washington with POMED and SOROS.

Offer by: Project on Middle East Democracy (POMED).
Position: Policy intern.
Requirements: highly-motivated individuals with strong academic backgrounds and an interest in U.S. foreign policy as it relates to prospects for democratic reform in the Middle East. Candidates should also be committed to POMED’s mission and principles.
Languages: Regional language skills are a plus, but not required.
Where: Washington, D.C.
When: five months, from early January through the end of May 2012.
Pay: unpaid internship.

Applicants who recently completed a bachelor’s degree are also welcome to apply. Deeply-motivated individuals with a strong working knowledge of the policy debates surrounding U.S. impact on political reform in Egypt and the Middle East more broadly.
Languages: Strong research skills and proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic are required.
Where: Washington, D.C.
When: from January through the end of May on at least a part-time basis (20 hours per week).

Position: Intern - Central Eurasia Project / Middle East North Africa - Regional Policy Initiative.
Requirements: currently enrolled in a relevant Graduate or Undergraduate Degree program who are highly motivated and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.  Strong communication, interpersonal and computer skills, a demonstrated ability to write effectively and analyze and summarize complex information, and a desire to function in a team environment.  They also must be able to multi-task while remaining attentive to detail. Background and interest in investigative journalism, international or national security law or relevant field. 
Languages: Language aptitude in Dari, Pashto, Urdu or Arabic is helpful, but not required. 
Where: Washington, D.C.
When: November 2011 – May 2012, 15-19 hours per week.
